The project transforms a three-part garage ensemble of 104 m² through carefully measured interventions that preserve its external character. Central to the concept is a new internal thermal envelope which, together with integrated building services, converts the formerly single-purpose structure into a robust, flexible spatial framework. The historic garage doors are retained as the outer layer; behind them, a new glass façade echoes the rhythm of the original doors and is articulated as an independent element by a central horizontal beam. Sanitary and storage areas are concentrated in the central bay, accessible from all three units. The result is a clearly organised infrastructure that expands potential uses without distorting the existing fabric.
Architecturally, the project follows a strategy of layering: outer skin, glass plane, and interior form a calibrated system of shell, filter, and core. This gradation creates nuanced transitions—from public exterior to semi-transparent buffer to thermally stable interior—allowing fine control of light, views, and climate.
The intervention prioritises re-use over replacement: retaining the original doors preserves embodied energy, the new insulated envelope minimises operational loads, and centralised services reduce technical redundancy. The clear spatial structure enhances everyday adaptability—supporting uses from workshop and studio to exhibition and storage—without prescribing a fixed program.
