The former youth radio building of broadcaster DT64, located near the Funkhaus Berlin, is reinterpreted as a modular reinforced-concrete structure with distinctive glass-block circulation cores. It is transformed into a flexible workspace for creative production formats. The design respects the serial logic of the existing building, continuing its structural grid: the spatial and constructive character of the original remains the reference point, while all new interventions are clearly legible, additive, and reversible.
At the heart of the transformation are eight paired service elements per floor, integrating sanitary facilities and kitchens while simultaneously providing spatial order. These compact “infrastructure spines” consolidate utilities, shorten distribution routes, and free the surrounding areas from technical constraints. As a result, studios and offices of varying sizes can be configured, rearranged, or dismantled using lightweight, non-load-bearing partitions set within the existing modular grid. The building’s robust framework—its column grid, slab structure, and circulation system—remains fully visible and readable.
The glass-block cores are preserved as atmospheric and memory-bearing elements: their diffuse light and textured materiality continue to define the communal zones. The project thus translates the rational clarity of a late-modernist structure into a contemporary, open framework for evolving work environments, maintaining both the spirit and the material presence of its architectural origin.
