Originally designed in 1963 by Fritz Bornemann, the ticket foyer functioned as a transitional space and point of orientation for visitors to the main auditorium. Through a careful reconfiguration, the space has been transformed into an autonomous, multifunctional cultural venue that can operate independently from the main building when required. The clear sequence of entrance and lobby remains as a typological framework but is expanded through adaptive modes of use.
At the center of the new spatial dramaturgy stands a rotating, sculptural module that unites bar and stage within a single compact element, recalibrating the proportions of the hall. Referencing the historical turnstile mechanism once used for ticket control, the module translates its kinetic logic into a modular construction of stainless-steel components on a wooden base. It enables both intimate exchanges at the bar and public performances on the stage to occur simultaneously.
The rotation mechanism allows for rapid reconfiguration, accommodating a broad range of event formats—from concerts and readings to exhibitions, receptions, and lounge settings. Technical infrastructure for lighting, acoustics, and media is seamlessly integrated into the module and room envelope, supporting performative scenarios with minimal visual impact and high reversibility. The result is a precise and flexible spatial tool that reinterprets Bornemann’s functional clarity for contemporary cultural production.
